As is well known in the realm of the exoteric Christian tradition, the acronym INRI stands for "Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum", i.e. "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews". According to the biblical chronicles, this inscription was placed by the Romans on the cross where Jesus was crucified.

From this perspective, INRI symbolizes not only the accusation against Jesus by the authorities, but also the irony of this statement, an explicit mockery of Jesus the Christ and his followers, Christians believe is really a prophetic truth of his spiritual and divine kingship.

However, in addition to this well-known and accepted interpretation by orthodoxy, there are other ways of understanding this condensation INRI.

The first occult interpretation is "Igne Natura Renovatur Integra" (By fire nature is completely renewed), which is a synthesis of the immolation of Christ. In this way, fire ceases to be a destructive element but becomes a purifier, to modify the nature of matter. In this sense, it is not uncommon for Fire (Ignis) to be linked to the divinity, giver of Light, Life and Warmth, and we see this clearly in the episode of Moses and the burning bush, and St. Paul says it well in Hebrews chapter 12 verse 29: "For our God is Consuming Fire".

In this sense, the "Igne Natura Renovatur Integra" speaks to us of a renewal of our inner nature. That is why in Inner Alchemy it is so important to work with the internal energies, that is, our inner fire, the purifying and transforming force in ourselves, that fire that emerges from the depths of the earth (sometimes called kundalini) and that also descends from above, thus propitiating the alchemical marriage.  The burning encounter of the high and the low in us in our hearts.
